It’s a question, so many people ask, how can I develop new products, often the answer is a change of attitude on the part of the company, but can any individual be trained to innovate, I think so, and in my humble opinion, Architectural Technologist should be well placed to do this task, I was, but it needed a mind change to develop the skills to think out side the norm, it required me to make notes, create sketches, experiment more than I had been trained to do.
But more than anything, it required me to battle the not invented here sindrome. For a large company, this is so often the case, but for small companies born with innovation it’s never a question.
So I was very please to see this book Creating Innovators by Tony Wagner & Robert A. Compton come into my radar, looking at the way innovation can be developed in an individual. But equally, I can under stand the opening comments of innovating for your country to keep work near to home, but I was a little annoyed that it was focused on just the USA, surely that is closing the mind of any innovator, who should know no bounds be free to think, develop and promote without restriction, still good on the MIT for teaching innovation.
I like this book, I like the way QR codes have been used to allow videos to be easily seen, both in the written format but also on any other medium that accepts both QR codes and video streaming, can’t say its great innovation, but interesting all the same. I wonder if in the iBook version the QR code can launch the video without accessing the QR code, now that would be good, and not difficult to do.
